2020 Chicago Stars High School Travel Program

WPPA is pleased to announce the Chicago Stars High School Travel Program formed in partnership with the Chicago Baseball Consortium.   This program is designed to complement players’ high school baseball experience with professional coaching through fall development, winter and summer training sessions and practices, and summer games and tournaments.  The program’s goal is to guide players through their high school careers and beyond by helping them develop their individual skills, “Baseball IQ,” team defense and situational understanding of the game.

  • Chicago Stars teams play up to six (6) summer tournaments in the Chicagoland area following the conclusion of the high school season (June and July)
  • Weekly summer team practices to combining inidividual skill work and team defense development
  • Off-season (January and February) trainings to develop individual skills/fundamentals in a group setting at the CIBC Fire Pitch
  • Skills enrichment (January through July)
  • Teams formed by player HS graduation year
  • Players receive professionally-produced digital recruiting video
  • Coordinated with HS Summer Ball schedules
  • Past program participants include players from Jones, Whitney Young, Lane Tech, Lake View, Niles West, Evanston, St. Ignatius, Payton, Lincoln Park, Mather, and Morton High Schools. 

Tryout Details 

  • All players must be enrolled in high school during the 2019-2020 school year
  • Full commitment to practices, games and tournaments is expected
  • Tryout Dates: Tues Jul 16, 23 or 30, 6-7:30pm (attend one)
  • Tryout location: Mather High School
  • Player must arrive 15 minutes early to check-in

Gary Evashenk - Junior High Coordinator

Gary has been coaching high school and junior high school athletics since 2002, when he served as the Assistant Coach for Reavis High School's baseball team until 2004.   Between 2005-2013, Gary was the Head Coach for both the Boys and Girls basketball teams at Lincoln Middle School, and since 2014 has served as that school's Athletic Director.   Gary also served as the Associate Head Coach for Morton High School's baseball team from 2013-2016.   Gary served as Head Coach for the 2018 13U Red and 2019 14U Red Welles Park All-Star Travel Team.  Prior to coaching, Gary played baseball for Moraine Valley Community College in 1998, and Robert Morris University from 1999 through 2001.

Jacob Rivera - Youth Coordinator

Since 2017, Jacob has been an Assistant Coach for Lincoln Park High School and also the Head Coach for the 8U, 9U and now 10U Black Welles Park All-Star Travel team (2019 Northside 5 10U Champions).  Jacob previously played baseball for Lincoln Park High School and Aurora University.(2014-2017).
